Bakersfield gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They strolled past the Buchanan Bears with points to spare, taking the game 28-13. For the Drillers, this counts as revenge for the 56-3 win the Bears walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2022.

Bakersfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Damir Lomax, who rushed for 92 yards and one score on only 13 carries.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Bakersfield proved: they limited Buchanan to a paltry 0.4 yards per carry. While two picked up at least two total tackles, Devon Perry stood above the rest. He made two total tackles. Bakersfield didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 5.9.

Looking ahead, Bakersfield will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against Garfield at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Buchanan, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Kennedy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
