Baseball Recap: Norristown Comes Up Short

Norristown extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 4-11. They fell 14-10 to the Upper Merion Area Vikings. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 1-0 back in March.

As for Upper Merion Area, their win bumped their record up to 7-9. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

For Upper Merion Area's part, the team relied heavily on Sean Rogers, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Rogers is becoming a predictor of the Vikings' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-9 when he doesn't). Michael Tomsho was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Norristown will square off against Pottstown at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.75 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Upper Merion Area, they will venture away from home to face off against Upper Perkiomen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Indians will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Vikings surely won't give up without a fight.
