McDowell has gone a perfect 10-0 against Erie recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Trojans will host the Royals at 6:00 p.m. McDowell will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Erie's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: McDowell hadn't allowed a single run the last four times they've hit the field. The Trojans' pitcher stepped up to hand General McLane a 1-0 shutout on Friday. The game snapped a strange streak: the last five times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Gabriella Deluca made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 19 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Erie hadn't done well against Conneaut Area recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Royals came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 3-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Royals.
The result came thanks to Danica Roward's shutout, as she gave up just seven hits.
At the plate, Hannah Nicklas was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
McDowell pushed their record up to 16-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Erie, their win bumped their record up to 4-15.
Erie's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: McDowell has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Erie, though, as they've been averaging 11.5 hits. Given McDowell's sizable advantage in that area, the Royals will need to find a way to close that gap.
McDowell took their victory against Erie in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 10-0 score. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Royals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
