Basketball Recap: Cupertino Pioneers vs. Monta Vista Matadors
The Cupertino Pioneers waltzed into their match on Thursday with 11 straight wins but they left with 12. They snuck past Monta Vista with a 53-47 victory. Given Cupertino's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 139th, while the Matadors are ranked 672nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cupertino had a senior duo take command as Max Feldan scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and two steals and Soham Nighojkar scored 17 points along with two steals and two blocks. Feldan has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Max Lin was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six assists.
Cupertino's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.7 points per game. As for Monta Vista, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-11.
Coincidentally, Cupertino and the Matadors will both be playing the Vikings the next time they take the court. Monta Vista will host Lynbrook at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Cupertino will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
