Soccer Recap: Veterans Memorial Comes Up Short

Veterans Memorial was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against the Pieper Warriors, falling 5-0. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 533rd, while the Warriors are ranked 77th).

Veterans Memorial was without their leading scorer, Fausto Castro, in Tuesday's match. With Castro sitting this one out, Chaz Tombarelli got some extra time on the pitch (80 vs. his season average of 56.9).

Veterans Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Pieper, the win was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-4.

Looking ahead, Veterans Memorial will challenge New Braunfels at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Pieper, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Smithson Valley at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Pieper is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.5 goals per game this season.
