Softball Recap: Avery County Vikings vs. University School Buccaneers

Avery County extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-14 in the process. They fell 7-3 to the University School Buccaneers. If the Vikings were looking for revenge after losing 24-17 to the Buccaneers when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for University School, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-15. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games.

For University School's part, Reece Williams made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Williams was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Emma Linkous was incredible, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Emma Chandley was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Avery County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for University School, they will venture away from home to take on South Greene at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rebels will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Buccaneers surely won't give up without a fight.
