Volleyball Recap: The Academy Comes Up Short

If The Academy was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Riverdale Ridge on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats fell just short of the Prairie View Thunderhawks by a score of 3-2 on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 3-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

The Academy took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-12, 25-27, 25-17, 15-7.

Despite the loss, The Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Honor Montoya had 15 digs. Those 15 digs set a new season-high mark for Montoya.

The Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Prairie View, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4.

Coming up, The Academy will welcome Prospect Ridge Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Prairie View, they will challenge Westminster at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
