Preview: Capital Prep Harbor Sharks vs. Broome Street Academy Warriors
Capital Prep Harbor is on a seven-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Broome Street Academy is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Capital Prep Harbor Sharks will take on the Broome Street Academy Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Capital Prep Harbor knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully Broome Street Academy likes a good challenge.
Two weeks ago, Capital Prep Harbor faced St. Thomas More in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Capital Prep Harbor enjoyed a cozy 64-49 victory over St. Thomas More. Capital Prep Harbor's offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Jacob Henderson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last nine times he's played. Another player making a difference was Edward Williams, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, even though Varsity Opponent scored an imposing 81 points on Saturday, Broome Street Academy still came out on top. Broome Street Academy strolled past Varsity Opponent with points to spare, taking the game 99-81.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Broome Street Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Samuel Acevedo, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine steals. Acevedo is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least three every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Foster, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals.
Capital Prep Harbor's win bumped their record up to 17-3. As for Broome Street Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-9 record this season.
Wednesday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Capital Prep Harbor have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 45.7% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Broome Street Academy struggles in that department as they've made 43.1% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Capital Prep Harbor won a contest that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in January, slipping by Broome Street Academy 84-83. Does Capital Prep Harbor have another victory up their sleeve, or will Broome Street Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
