Softball Recap: O'connor Takes Down Ranked Xavier College Prep

O'Connor faced Xavier College Prep in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Eagles came out on top against the Gators by a score of 6-2. The game was the first time the Eagles have beaten the Gators on their field since March 6, 2018.

Maci Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Avery Gourlay, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydnee Williams, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

O'Connor's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-11. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Xavier College Prep, with the loss, they broke their 12-game winning streak and moved their record to 22-6-4.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Gators beat O'Connor by a score of 2-0 on Thursday.
