Basketball Recap: Spanish Fork Comes Up Short

Spanish Fork lost to Payson back in December of 2021 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Dons received a blow as they fell 66-47 to the Lions.

It was another big night for Emmy Hales, who shot 4-for-5 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double with 30 points and 12 boards for Payson. That's the most points Hales has posted since back in January of 2025. Another player making a difference was Makinley Renzello, who went 7-for-13 en route to 22 points and five steals.

Spanish Fork has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for Payson, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-9.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Spanish Fork will square off against rival Salem Hills at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Payson is set to face off against their familiar foe Wasatch at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
