Football Game Preview: Isle of Wight Academy Chargers vs. Hampton Roads Academy Navigators

After each having a week off, the Isle of Wight Academy Chargers and the Hampton Roads Academy Navigators will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Isle of Wight Academy comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Isle of Wight Academy is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Catholic last Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Chargers took a blow against the Crusaders, falling 33-6. The Chargers were down 26-0 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Isle of Wight Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ian Upton, who picked up 80 receiving yards and one touchdown, and Wyatt Short, who threw for 85 yards and one TD on only eight passes. Upton's longest reception was for an impressive 67 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total.

Isle of Wight Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Paul Hearn and Short.

Meanwhile, Hampton Roads Academy fell victim to Nansemond-Suffolk Academy and their airtight defense last Friday. They were beaten by the Saints 56-0. The Navigators have struggled against the Saints recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Isle of Wight Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Hampton Roads Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Everything came up roses for Isle of Wight Academy against Hampton Roads Academy when the teams last played back in October of 2015, as the team secured a 35-0 win.
