Football Recap: Francisco Gutierrez and Diego Quezada Pace Friona Defense + How To Watch

Friona and Slaton squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Friona had to settle for second. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (34-21), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. The game was a 21-21 toss-up at halftime, but they couldn't quite close it out.

Although Friona took the loss, they still got scores from Diego Quezada, Jameson Daniels, and Brice Jeter.

Friona didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Francisco Gutierrez and Quezada. Gutierrez also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 15. Quezada got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Slaton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacob Lopez, who threw for 135 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 88 yards. Daniel Payne was another key player, gaining 66 total yards.

Friona dropped their record down to 3-8 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Slaton, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.

As of now, neither Friona nor Slaton have any future games scheduled.
