Basketball Recap: Midfield Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

Midfield came tearing into Saturday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 59-54 win over the Wekiva Mustangs. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 40th in Alabama, while the Mustangs are ranked 308th in Florida), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Armonie Franklin continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 6 for 8 on his way to 20 points in addition to six steals and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Sellers, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 13 points.

Midfield has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 34.8% in those games and 22% outside of them. As for Wekiva, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.

Midfield will venture away from home to take on Childersburg at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Midfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.6 points per game this season. As for Wekiva, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Tavares at 7:00 p.m. on January 15, 2025.
