Baseball Game Preview: Cathedral Catholic Dons vs. Point Loma Pointers

The Cathedral Catholic Dons will challenge the Point Loma Pointers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Cathedral Catholic 3.7, Point Loma 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Cathedral Catholic turned things around against St. Augustine on Thursday. They walked away with a 7-4 win over the Saints. The game was the first time the Dons have beaten the Saints on their field since May 9, 2023.

Ty Daniels was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Stewart, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Cathedral Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Point Loma had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Falcons.

Point Loma also got a great performance from Johnny Bowes as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Bowes has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Point Loma's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Phoenix Brant, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Another was Hunter Reddeg, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

Cathedral Catholic's win bumped their record up to 14-10. As for Point Loma, their victory bumped their record up to 15-8-1.

Cathedral Catholic beat Point Loma 4-1 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Dons repeat their success, or do the Pointers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
