Basketball Recap: Janiyah Weaver and Journey Conley Secure Win for Jackson

Jackson won the last time they faced Pace Academy and things went their way on Friday too. The Jackson Jaguars came out on top against the Pace Academy Knights by a score of 47-35.

Jackson was led to victory by Journey Conley and Janiyah Weaver. Conley dropped a double-double with 17 points and 14 boards, while Weaver went 5-for-6 on her way to 10 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. The dominant performance gave Weaver a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Janiya McCoy, who posted eight points and three steals.

Despite the defeat, Pace Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Megan Wrigley almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

Jackson is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.2 points over those games. As for Pace Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 12-11 record this season.

Jackson and Pace Academy are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Jaguars face off against the Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Starr's Mill will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Jackson surely won't give up without a fight. As for Pace Academy, they will face off against Harris County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
