Basketball Recap: Bishop England Takes a Loss

Bishop England fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Wando on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 72-65 defeat to the Wando Warriors. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (63), the Battling Bishops still had to take the loss.

Wando's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Khairi Richardson, who went 7 of 16 en route to 18 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Tait Horine, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine assists.

Bishop England dropped their record down to 7-9 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Wando, they moved to 3-12 with that win, which also ended their eight-game losing streak.

Bishop England will welcome Hilton Head Island at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hilton Head Island knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Bishop England likes a good challenge. As for Wando, they will challenge Stratford at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
