Basketball Game Preview: Melstone Broncs vs. Roy/Winifred Outlaws

Melstone is 0-5 against Roy/Winifred since March of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Broncs just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Outlaws at 8:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Melstone proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by 22) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 64-61 victory over Harlowton/Ryegate/Judith Gap. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Broncs have posted since February 15, 2025.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Roy/Winifred). They took their game on Thursday with ease, bagging a 68-37 victory over Broadview/Lavina. Given the Outlaws' advantage in MaxPreps' Montana basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Pirates are ranked 120th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Melstone pushed their record up to 10-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.4 points over those games. As for Roy/Winifred, their win bumped their record up to 11-3.

Melstone couldn't quite finish off Roy/Winifred in their previous meeting two weeks ago and fell 43-41. Can the Broncs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
