Baseball Recap: Batavia Drops Season-High Score on Mt. Healthy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Batavia). They never let the Mt. Healthy Fighting Owls get on the board and left with a 28-0 win on Tuesday. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 contests by six runs or more this season.

John McKeon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI and one run.

In other pitching news, Derek Richardson looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Brayden Schmittou, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Max Rash was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs and two RBI.

Batavia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .733. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Batavia has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Mt. Healthy, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-15.
