Volleyball Recap: Max Mechtenberg's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ventura over San Marcos

Ventura came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the San Marcos Royals, falling 3-0. The Cougars have struggled against the Royals recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meetings.

The final score came out to 25-20, 25-14, 25-12.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Max Mechtenberg, who had 18 digs, nine kills, and two blocks. The dominant performance gave Mechtenberg a new career-high in blocks. Fletcher Duffey was another key player, getting 26 digs.

Ventura now has a losing record of 6-7. As for San Marcos, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-8 record this season.

Ventura will challenge Foothill Tech at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. San Marcos will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Pacifica at 5:30 p.m. on April 1st. San Marcos is facing Pacifica at the right time seeing as Pacifica is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
