Softball Game Preview: North Mustangs vs. Carl Hayden Community Falcons

For the second straight game, North will face off against Carl Hayden Community. North will be playing in front of their home fans against Carl Hayden Community at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. North has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

North will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against Carl Hayden Community on Tuesday. North came out on top against Carl Hayden Community by a score of 15-11. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 6, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Solis Coker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and eight unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 17 Ks. Those 17 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Natalie Figueroa was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariana Velasquez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Figueroa wasn't the only one working in the hit department: North kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for North: they were averaging 3.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 11.2.

Carl Hayden Community has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. North's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-8.
