Basketball Game Preview: Southern Wells Raiders vs. Heritage Patriots

Southern Wells is 2-8 against Heritage since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Southern Wells Raiders will take on the Heritage Patriots in a tournament on Friday. Southern Wells is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53 points per game this season.

Southern Wells will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Adams Central, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Southern Wells snuck past Adams Central with a 46-41 win on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Raiders.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Southern Wells to victory, but perhaps none more so than Collena Reeves, who posted ten points and five rebounds. What's more, Reeves also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in November of 2024. Kenzie Paxson was another key player, putting up four points and nine boards.

Southern Wells smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Heritage was not able to break out of their rough patch last Tuesday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss. They had to suffer through a 62-19 loss at the hands of Westview. That's two games in a row now that the Patriots have lost by exactly 43 points.

Southern Wells will have to keep a close watch on Danica Fuller and Audra Bickel, a pair of players who had a big impact on Heritage's prior game. Fuller had nine points, while Bickel earned four points and six rebounds.

Heritage's defeat dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Southern Wells, their victory bumped their record up to 14-4.

Everything came up roses for Southern Wells against Heritage in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 55-19 win. Does Southern Wells have another victory up their sleeve, or will Heritage turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
