Catalina Medina made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Haley Ocumen, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Katelynn Dilbeck, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Willow Glen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Ann Sobrato made sure to put some runs up on the board against Leland on Tuesday. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 14-2 margin over the Chargers. The Bulldogs not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 18th (when they won 13-1).
Like Willow Glen, Ann Sobrato also got a great game from a two-way player: Sam Zimmerman. She pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Zimmerman has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Julia Carlsen was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Angelina Bugg was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Willow Glen's win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-0-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Ann Sobrato, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Ann Sobrato's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Willow Glen has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Ann Sobrato, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.1 strikeouts. Will Willow Glen keep running through batters, or will the Bulldogs buck the trend?
Willow Glen beat Ann Sobrato 11-8 when the teams last played last Tuesday. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
