Recap: Grand Junction Central Warriors vs. Mead Mavericks
The Grand Junction Central Warriors lost against the Mead Mavericks back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Grand Junction Central lost to Mead on the road by a decisive 60-44 margin. While losing is never fun, Grand Junction Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 155th, while Mead is ranked 39th).
Several Warriors players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Camren Redding, who scored 11 points along with three steals. Redding is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Ryland Nostrand was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Mead's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Donovan Weese led the charge by scoring 16 points. Weese has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Angelo, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Grand Junction Central now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Mead, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Grand Junction Central and Basalt will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 6:30 p.m. on January 6, 2024. Hopefully Basalt focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Saturday. Mead will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Longmont at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
