Softball Recap: Thursday's Loss Ends East Hamilton's Winning Streak

East Hamilton dropped their record down to 11-7 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Walker Valley Mustangs. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Hurricanes couldn't push the score so high this time.

Yulai Woodruff was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

As for Walker Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games.

On Walker Valley's side, Olivia Presswood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Vanessa Byers, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Amy Benson, who went 3-for-4 with three runs.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Hamilton will face off against Hixson at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Walker Valley, they will challenge Silverdale Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Seahawks will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Mustangs surely won't give up without a fight.
