Basketball Recap: Liberty Falls Despite Big Games from Titus Johnson and Shane Williams

Liberty lost against Chowchilla back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Liberty Hawks received a blow as they fell 53-37 to the Chowchilla Tribe. The Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Liberty's loss came despite strong showings from Shane Williams and Titus Johnson. Williams posted six points and five boards, while Johnson put up ten points and six rebounds. What's more, Williams also racked up three assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2024.

Chowchilla's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zayne Smith, who went 5 of 10 en route to 17 points. Khaled Escheik was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 14 rebounds.

Liberty's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-12. As for Chowchilla, they pushed their record up to 13-11 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Liberty will host Minarets at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Liberty is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.8 points per game this season. As for Chowchilla, they will welcome Fresno Christian at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Fresno Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Chowchilla likes a good challenge.
