Softball Recap: St. Joseph Notre Dame Continues Road Dominance on Friday

St. Joseph Notre Dame proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 20) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Head-Royce Jayhawks, sneaking past 4-2. The win continues a trend for the Pilots in their matchups with the Jayhawks: they've now won four in a row.

Cassandra Sanchez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ella Schwartz was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Safah Hashemi also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

St. Joseph Notre Dame's victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Head-Royce, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.

Looking ahead, St. Joseph Notre Dame will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Redwood Christian at 4:00 p.m. As for Head-Royce, they will face off against Lick-Wilmerding at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Jayhawks are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
