Baseball Game Preview: Alexandria Valley Cubs vs. Cherokee County Warriors

For the second straight game, Alexandria will face off against Cherokee County. The Valley Cubs will take on the Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Alexandria needed a bit of extra time to put away Cherokee County. They won by a run and slipped past the Warriors 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Valley Cubs have posted since March 12th.

For Cherokee County's part, Ben Elsberry spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits. Those hits marked the first that Elsberry allowed this season.

On the hitting side, Cherokee County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Parker Wilson, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Alexandria has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Cherokee County, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-12-1.
