Baseball Game Preview: Monterey Toreadors vs. Palma Chieftains

For the second straight game, Monterey will face off against Palma. The Toreadors will venture away from home to take on the Chieftains at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Monterey's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Palma's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Palma will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Monterey extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Toreadors narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Chieftains 3-1. The game snapped a strange streak: the last three times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Johnny Money spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Monterey saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Greyson Everett, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

This is the second loss in a row for Palma and nudges their season record down to 8-6. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Monterey, their victory bumped their record up to 8-6.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Monterey has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Palma struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.6 strikeouts.
