Soccer Game Preview: Williams vs. Piedmont

The Williams Yellowjackets will take on the Piedmont Highlanders at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Williams' last three contests have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Williams is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. While the 1-1 score might suggest a draw, it was Williams who was credited with the victory. Williams got it done in the shootout by posting nine goals to Caruthers' eight. Given the Yellowjackets' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 135th, while the Blue Raiders are ranked 554th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Piedmont's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They came out on top against Colusa by a score of 2-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Highlanders.

Piedmont pushed their record up to 12-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored eight goals over those three matchups. As for Williams, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That somehow still isn't as good as their 15-1 record this season.
