Baseball Recap: Clay Finds Home Field Redemption Against Middleburg

There's no place like home for Clay, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over the Middleburg Broncos on Tuesday. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Broncos recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Rylan McMahan tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

On the hitting side, Clay let Peyton McCrae and Cole Carnell run wild. McCrae scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Carnell scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. What's more, McCrae posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Levi Chmura, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Clay's victory bumped their record up to 12-6. As for Middleburg, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clay will head out to square off against Creekside at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Middleburg, they will venture away from home to challenge Keystone Heights at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keystone Heights' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Middleburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
