Baseball Game Preview: Eastern Warriors vs. Wheelersburg Pirates

The Eastern Warriors will square off against the Wheelersburg Pirates at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Friday just wasn't the day for Eastern's offense. They came up short against Valley on Friday, falling 12-0. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Warriors' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Wheelersburg never let their opponents score on Friday. They put the hurt on Northwest with a sharp 14-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Ean Conn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Conn was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Wheelersburg got a massive performance out of Brady Doss, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave Doss a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Picklesimer, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Wheelersburg is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Eastern, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-3.
