Softball Recap: Angleton Wildcats vs. Texas City Stingarees
Angleton extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 16-15-1. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Texas City Stingarees. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Isabella Nava was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Nava was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.
Nava wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ayleen Cervantes, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
As for Texas City, their victory ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-20-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since February 13th.
On Texas City's side, Harley Garza spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on seven hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Trinitey Spencer, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Coming up, Angleton will square off against Barbers Hill at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Texas City does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
