Baseball Recap: Mohave Accelerated Comes Up Short

Mohave Accelerated extended their losing streak to five on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 5-13 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Heritage Academy Heroes. The Patriots were not able to make up for their loss to the Heroes from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

Matt Brennan made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Vince Garcia, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

As for Heritage Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-9-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games.

On Heritage Academy's side, Isaias Ruiz and Paul (PJ) Soltero were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Ruiz pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Soltero struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Ruiz also tossed no walks, which is notable because Heritage Academy is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-8-1 otherwise. At bat, Ruiz went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Soltero went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave Soltero a new career-high.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Eduardo Nieblas, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Heritage Academy beat Mohave Accelerated by a score of 18-3 later that day.
