Baseball Game Preview: Escalon Cougars vs. Ripon Christian Knights

The Escalon Cougars will take on the Ripon Christian Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Escalon had taken Hilmar down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Friday. Escalon fell 7-3 to Hilmar.

Escalon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Logan Huebner, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. Another was Ryan Murphy, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Ripon Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Weston Ranch. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Knights have suffered against the Cougars since May 4, 2021.

Jordan Luisi made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February. Trenton Cloward was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Even though they lost, Ripon Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Ripon Christian now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Escalon, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-6.

Escalon suffered a grim 9-2 defeat to Ripon Christian in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Escalon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
