Basketball Recap: Aleah Szymanski's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Harrison over Roncalli

Harrison was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 57-45 loss to the Roncalli Royals. The Raiders were down 50-28 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Several Raiders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aleah Szymanski, who posted six points and three steals. Szymanski is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylie Conklin, who earned seven points.

Among those leading the charge was Reagan Turk, who went 6 of 8 on her way to 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Those three steals gave her a new career-high. Elliot Leffler was another key player, putting up 17 points and six boards.

Harrison's defeat dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Roncalli, they moved to 8-7 with that win, which also ended their five-game losing streak.

Harrison didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 45-37 victory against Lebanon on the 4th. As for Roncalli, they will venture away from home to face off against Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while Roncalli has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
