Volleyball Recap: Spanish Springs Starts Season with Victory Against Galena

Spanish Springs gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Galena Grizzlies. This was payback for the Cougars, who suffered a 3-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Spanish Springs wouldn't go down easily and took Galena into a fifth set where they got it done with a three-point win. The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 23-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-12.

Gianna Antle had a dynamite game, getting 11 digs and four aces.

Antle wasn't the only good server: Spanish Springs was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 16 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in September of 2024.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Spanish Springs will square off against Bishop Manogue at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Galena, they will challenge Reed at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
