Preview: Overton Mustangs vs. Maud Cardinals
The Overton Mustangs will be home for the holidays to greet the Maud Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Overton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday.
Overton scored the most points they've had all season to find success. They claimed a resounding 59-29 win over Ore City at home. The win made it back-to-back wins for Overton.
It was another big night for Kayla Nobles, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. The game was her sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Sarah Emery, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Maud came up short against Marshall Christian Academy on Tuesday and fell 37-30.
Despite the defeat, Maud saw an underclassman step up: Mallorie Bishop scored 19 points. Bishop scored a full 63.3% of Maud's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Bayla White was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Overton is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. As for Maud, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 7-7.
Everything went Overton's way against Maud when the teams last played back in December of 2021 as Overton made off with a 54-28 victory. Does Overton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Maud turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
