Preview: Mound City/Craig vs. North Nodaway/West Nodaway
If the MaxPreps national rankings hold true, the near future looks bright for Mound City/Craig. They will look to defend their home turf on Friday against North Nodaway/West Nodaway at 7:00 PM. Mound City/Craig have yet to lose; North Nodaway/West Nodaway, on the other hand, are desperate for their first win.
Mound City/Craig faced Southwest/Hale/Tina-Avalon in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Mound City/Craig steamrollered Southwest/Hale/Tina-Avalon 64-14. Senior Dylan Marrs and junior TJ Hopkins were among the main playmakers for Mound City/Craig as the former rushed for 111 yards and 2 touchdowns and the latter rushed for 90 yards and 4 touchdowns. Hopkins was a defensive playmaker as well with a menacing 3.5 sacks.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 6-56, which was the final score in North Nodaway/West Nodaway's tilt against Rock Port last Friday. The game was over by the end of the first half, with no points scored by either team from that point forward.
Mound City/Craig's victory lifted them to 4-0 while North Nodaway/West Nodaway's defeat dropped them down to 0-4. North Nodaway/West Nodaway's offensive line will need to gear up for a tough test against a Mound City/Craig defensive front that amassed seven sacks against Southwest/Hale/Tina-Avalon, so we'll see if they are up to the task.
