League recap: Gloucester Catholic's Shawaryn delivers best pitching performance from past week

Tri-County - Diamond league recap: 5/30/13

Mike Shawaryn was the best pitcher in Tri-County - Diamond this week, leading Gloucester Catholic. He picked up one win and eight strikeouts.

Top honors in the league this week go to the Rams, which finished with two wins overall, good for best in the league. Gloucester Catholic beat Bishop Ahr 10-0 and Penns Grove 11-1.

The Rams boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks.

Even after stealing 16 bases to lead the league over the past week, Glassboro is still looking up at Gloucester Catholic, which ranks No. 1 in steals, with 83 on the year.

There were four hitters that batted over .400 in the league this week. Leading the pack was Mark DeJesse, who hit .667 by going 2-for-3.

The Rams' Shawaryn led the league in strikeouts this week with eight. With 66 strikeouts this year so far, he ranks first in the league.



Shawaryn led Gloucester Catholic to a win on May 24, as he notched eight strikeouts to beat the Trojans, 10-0. He gave up zero hits and zero runs over five innings of work.

Pat Hiester was an RBI machine on Friday, as he knocked in four runs during the Rams' 10-0 win over Bishop Ahr. He went 2-for-2 and scored one run.
