Basketball Recap: Centerville Tornadoes vs. Irene/Wakonda Eagles

After flying high against Scotland/Menno last Tuesday, Centerville came back down to earth. The Centerville Tornadoes were just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 56-55 to the Irene/Wakonda Eagles. The Tornadoes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Irene/Wakonda got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Brody Johnke out in front who went 6 for 14 on his way to 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cain Healy, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Centerville's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-3. As for Irene/Wakonda, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Centerville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 67-58 win against Freeman on the 21st. Irene/Wakonda has also already played their next match, a 57-55 defeat against Alcester-Hudson on the 23rd.
