Basketball Recap: Huss Falls to Fort Mill in First Game of Season

Huss kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell 81-71 to the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets.

Despite the loss, Huss saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jaleel Smith shot 78% from beyond the arc en route to 36 points along with eight steals and six boards. Smith has been hot, having posted 18 or more points the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Zaiyir 'Zii' Phillips, who went 7-for-16 to rack up 17 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals.

Fort Mill's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Wallace Campbell led the charge by dropping a double-double with 24 points and 11 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of AJ Washington, who shot 56% from the field on his way to 24 points and six rebounds.

Huss didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 71-57 win against T.C. Roberson on the 25th. As for Fort Mill, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 78-64 victory against York Prep on the 24th.
