Basketball Recap: Webster County Highlanders vs. Clay County Panthers

Make it seven blowout wins for the Webster County Highlanders this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat Clay County 69-34 on the road. The win was familiar territory for Webster County who now have seven in a row.

Leading Webster County to victory were Riley Clevenger and Logan Leichliter. Clevenger scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals, while Leichliter scored 21 points along with five assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Leichliter has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Raydan Triplett, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and five steals.

Webster County's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-1. As for Clay County, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Webster County will take on the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Braxton County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps West Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 110th, while the Highlanders are ranked 27th). As for Clay County, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against the Raiders at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Roane County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Thursday.
