Softball Recap: Smith County Takes a Loss

Smith County extended their losing streak to nine on Thursday, dropping them down to 6-14. They came up short against the Cannon County Lions, falling 10-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Lions this season, with their most recent defeat being a 13-1 loss back in April.

As for Cannon County, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-10. Considering they have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Cannon County's part, the team relied heavily on August Morris, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Morris has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Anna Wood, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Smith County has already played their next contest (against Marion County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Cannon County, they will challenge Sequatchie County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season.
