Baseball Game Preview: Friona Chieftans vs. Slaton Tigers

The Friona Chieftans will face off against the Slaton Tigers at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Friona is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.

Friona fell victim to Idalou and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 14-0 to the Wildcats.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 13 runs the game before, Slaton was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They came up short against Littlefield, falling 10-2. The Tigers have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Slaton saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Taji Arce, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Slaton's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Friona, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Friona has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Slaton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Friona suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Slaton in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Can the Chieftans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
