Baseball Recap: Tri-Township Victorious

It's playoff time, and Tri-Township had no trouble coming through when it counted. They had just enough and edged out the Hammond Academy of Science & Tech Hawks 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since May 27, 2024.

Cody Vernich spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has become a key player for Tri-Township: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least ten strikeouts, but 4-11 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ethan Dailey, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Tri-Township is 3-1 when Dailey posts three or more RBI, but 3-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Dillon Stewart, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.

The win made it two in a row for Tri-Township and bumps their season record up to 6-12. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Hammond Academy of Science & Tech, they moved to 17-5 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

As of now, neither Tri-Township nor the Hawks have any future games scheduled.
