Basketball Recap: Wellington-Napoleon Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jace Mefferd and Jonny Hampton

Wellington-Napoleon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 66-57 to the Penney Hornets. That's two games in a row now that the Tigers have lost by exactly nine points.

Wellington-Napoleon's loss came despite strong showings from Jonny Hampton and Jace Mefferd. Hampton posted 16 points and five rebounds, while Mefferd put up ten points. Those ten points gave Mefferd a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jackson Waterworth, who earned eight points.

Even though they lost, Wellington-Napoleon was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Wellington-Napoleon's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Penney, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Wellington-Napoleon will venture away from home to square off against Lexington at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Penney, they will welcome Mid-Buchanan at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Mid-Buchanan's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
