Basketball Recap: JJ Mendez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Williams over Etna

Williams was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 54-41 to the Etna Lions.

Williams' defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was JJ Mendez, who posted 11 points. Diego Ambriz was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Williams' loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Etna, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season.

Williams and Etna will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matchups. The next time the Yellowjackets see the court they'll take on Lower Lake at 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2026. As for Etna, their break will end when they face Plumas Charter at 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2026.
