Football Game Preview: Lowell Red Devils vs. Hanover Central Wildcats

The Lowell Red Devils will square off against the Hanover Central Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Lowell is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Andrean just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Friday. They received a blow as they fell 19-3 to the Fighting 59ers. The contest marked the Red Devils' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Even if they lost, Lowell's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Lincoln Schneider, Jeron Cannon, and Michael Shelton, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Andrean's side was Schneider, who picked up a sack and made 17 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hanover Central). They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 42-0 win over Hammond Central. The high-scoring effort was just what the Wildcats needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Ben Baswell and Isaiah Buikema. Baswell rushed for 121 yards and a pair of TDs on only 11 carries while Buikema rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Those 121 rushing yards gave Baswell a new career-high.

Hanover Central's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Lowell, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 7-2.

Lowell strolled past Hanover Central when the teams last played back in September by a score of 35-20. Will the Red Devils repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
