Football Recap: Arizona College Prep Knights vs. Cactus Shadows Falcons
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Arizona College Prep had no problem doing just that on Friday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 35-34 victory over the Cactus Shadows Falcons.
Arizona College Prep's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Evan Heinrich, who threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes, and also rushed for 31 yards and one TD. That's the most rushing yards Heinrich has posted since back in November of 2024. Max Sasso was in the mix as well, providing Arizona College Prep with two scores.

Arizona College Prep didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Daniel Velasquez and Melo Adams. With that strong performance, Velasquez is now averaging an impressive 5.2 total tackles per game. Another thorn in Cactus Shadows' side was Cam Mitchell, who made 12 total tackles (3.5 for loss) and defended one pass.
When it comes to explaining why Cactus Shadows lost, don't look at Donivan Dixon. Despite the final result, he threw for 299 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 90 yards. Dixon is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last three games he's played. Cactus Shadows' leading receiver Brock Cashin was Dixon's top target yet again, picking up 43 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Arizona College Prep's record is now 9-2. As for Cactus Shadows, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 7-5 record.
Coming up, Arizona College Prep will head out to take on ALA - Gilbert North at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Knights surely won't give up without a fight. Cactus Shadows does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
