Softball Game Preview: Avon Eagles vs. Walsh Jesuit Warriors

The Avon Eagles will square off against the Walsh Jesuit Warriors at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Avon sitting on three straight wins and Walsh Jesuit on 16.

Avon took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Elyria, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles came out on top in a nail-biter against the Pioneers on Monday, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since April 20th.

Maria Young spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 16 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jocelin Ochs was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one triple the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Aysh, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.

Meanwhile, Walsh Jesuit got the win against Revere on Wednesday by a conclusive 11-5. Considering the Warriors have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Avon's win bumped their record up to 10-11. As for Walsh Jesuit, their victory bumped their record up to 16-1.
